eOne, Sunrise pact on TV development shingle

Canadian mini-studio Entertainment One and California-based Sunrise Pictures have pacted in a TV development deal under new banner Sunrise TV.

Through Sunrise TV, the two companies will co-finance and develop primarily one-hour dramatic cable pilot scripts, with eOne producing and handling worldwide distribution.

“This new venture supports eOne’s commitment to dramatic programming, like The Walking Dead and Haven, and we’re looking forward to expanding our portfolio with more compelling content for U.S. and global audiences,” said eOne TV CEO John Morayniss in a statement.

The move comes as eOne looks to further expand its business producing cable drama series. The company last week inked a first-look deal with California-based production and management co The Cartel to develop, produce and distribute scripted and unscripted TV projects.

Sunrise Pictures head of production Joe Dain negotiated the deal, and will executive produce alongside Sunrise CEO Peter Schafer and head of development Jim Klock.

Sunrise Pictures is an indie production and financing company, behind such films as The Whistleblower and upcoming The Trials of Cate McCall.
