Montreal World Film Festival starts booking competition titles

The Montreal World Film Festival has begun to unveil its competition slate.

Serge Losique’s long-running festival has booked writer/director Michael Z. Wechsler’s The Red Robin to vie at the upcoming 2013 edition.

Also competing in the world competition in Montreal is Iranian filmmaker Danesh Eqbashavi’s directorial debut, Taj Mahal.

The Red Robin, which stars Judd Hirsch and Ryan O’Nan, is a psychological thriller about a celebrated psychiatrist accused on his deathbed by a traumatized adopted son of  raising a family to perform mind control experiments.

Taj Mahal portrays an old man in a southern Iranian city questioning his beliefs.

Around 20 films will compete for the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Montreal World Film Festival, whic is set to run from Aug. 22 to Sept. 2.
