Call goes out for Canadian TV dramas for U.S. network pitchfest

The Canadian consulate general in Los Angeles has put out the call for Canuck producers to pitch TV series concepts to U.S. network executives at the end of August.

The deadline for one sheets and overall applications is July 15, ahead of a three day pitch session from August 27 to 29 in Hollywood.

The Canadian consulate in 2009 first brought together top Canadian TV drama producers with network executives from CBS, NBC, ABC, Turner, Fox and CW to see if proposed series could go through to development.

This fifth edition of the pre-buying event is being staged with the help of the Canadian Media Production Association, Telefilm Canada, the Canada Media Fund, and provincial agencies.

Up to 10 Canadian producers with drama projects will be chosen to present their pitches.

Projects with showrunners on board and who accompany a producer at the pitch will go to the front of the line.

The Canadian consulate and its partners are also looking for projects with “commercial viability” that can fly in the U.S. market.
