TVO adds three new board members

TVOntario chair Peter O’Brian last week announced three new additions to the public educational media organization’s board of directors. New members Gary Comerford, Kristin Morch and Mark Wakefield will each serve three-year terms on TVO’s board.

Comerford has more than 35 years of business experience with a specialty in world-wide strategic marketing and a background in business and culture. He has been chair of the Shaw festival and a senior executive with Sun-Life Financial.

Morch, LLB, is co-founder and trustee of The Pace Family Foundation, based in Toronto, which contributes to improving health care in Ontario, and in Rwanda, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Niger and Kenya. She has been a partner with Aird and Berlis LLP and Aylesworth Thompson and specializes in real estate financing. She has also served on the board of directors for the Toronto Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation.

Wakefield was an interim CFO with TVO in 2009. He is now principal of Journey to Excellence where he provides consulting advice to leading Canadian companies. In the past he has been vice-president of finance/chief accountant at Xerox Canada. He is also treasurer and board member of Kinark Child and Family Services, a children’s mental health organization.

“Mr. Comerford’s strategic marketing knowledge, Ms. Morch’s philanthropic vision, and Mr. Wakefield’s finance and business expertise will serve TVO well, as we move ahead with our digital innovation strategy and our ambition to use educational media to help Ontario’s kids be successful in school and engage citizens of all ages in the big issues of the day,” said Lisa de Wilde, Chief Executive Officer of TVO in a statement.

TVO  is the province’s educational broadcaster and is funded primarily by the government. It is a registered charity that is also supported by sponsors and donors.
