TV Premieres
Season one of 13-by-half hour animated series Camp Lakebottom debuts on Teletoon Canada Thursday July 4 at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT. As well, the series will air on a Friday morning block called Camp Teletoon, the cable channel announced earlier this week. Camp Lakebottom is produced by Toronto’s 9 Story Entertainment. It was created by Betsy McGowen and Eric Jacobson; the exec producers are Vince Commisso, Steve Jarosz, Kevin Gillis, Betsy McGowen and Eric Jacobson.
Corus Entertainment’s YTV and Tricon Films and Television have announced that the sixth season reality talent format The Next Star will premiere on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. The new season will feature a new host, Canadian TV personality Carlos Bustamante (pictured). He was attached to the show in March.
Awards
Poppety in the Fall, a coproduction from Montreal prodco Carpe Diem Film & TV, the NFB and France’s Folimage Studio, took the Young Audience Award at the Court des Iles International Short Film Festival in Porto-Vecchio recently. This follows a win at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, announced earlier this week. These prizes are in addition to its taking of the People’s Choice Award for Best Short Film at Belgium’s Anima TV festival.
Events
JFL42, billed by organizer Just For Laughs as a pass-based interactive comedy festival, will have its second annual running in Toronto Sept. 19 to 28. The festival lineup is heavy with comedy talents from both sides of the border, many of whom are also actors . Canadians scheduled to perform include Daryn Jones, Ryan Belleville, Chris Locke, Mark Little and Kyle Dooley.
