A total of 10 projects have received $1.9 million in funding through the Canada Media Fund’s convergent stream’s Diverse Languages Program.
The TV productions feature digital components in languages including Mandarin, Spanish, Italian and Persian.
Funding recipients include Vancouver-based Big Bad Boo Studios’ Lili & Lola ($200,000) and its digital media component ($100,000); Flying Cloud Productions’ Jing Tian’s Escape ($39,870) and its digital component Life in a Labour Camp ($98,081); and from Montreal, Productions Pimiento’s Spanish-language doc L’ADN de la cuisine peruvienne ($111,000) and website from Atelier Rocoto ($75,000).
Toronto-based Telelatino Network received coin for two projects: Spanish-language Bienvenidos a Lulaworld ($99,688) and website ($99,037) and Italian-language Operazione Husky 2013 ($200,000) and its DM website ($99,037).
Lucent Media received funding for Mandarin doc projects Art of Courage ($50,479) and its virtual gallery ($100,000), and In the Name of Confucius ($58,620) and DM ($100,000).
And New Realm Studios’ received coin for three Mandarin projects: Big Shorts I ($109,420) and video website ($100,000); News Detox II ($108,525) and its website ($100,000); and Outlaws of the Marsh – Revisited III ($71,243).
The Diverse Languages Program supports productions in languages other than English, French or Aboriginal languages that reflect Canadian diversity.
