Toronto-based factual producer Proper Television has acquired international TV distributor BuzzTaxi Communications.
The move comes as the indie producer expands into content distribution.
“It’s an obvious next step in the evolution of Proper. Acquiring a cracking company like BuzzTaxi means we can hit the ground running with our growing number of original series, as well as aggressively seek third-party content,” said Proper Television president Guy O’Sullivan in a statement.
Proper will wholly own and operate BuzzTaxi Communications, effective immediately. BuzzTaxi founding partners Jenna Bourdeau and Natalie Vinet will stay on as VPs of Proper Distribution.
“Jenna and Natalie have more than a decade out in the marketplace and their know-how will be valuable as we grow the brand,” O’Sullivan added.
“We’ve worked very closely with our production clients over the years and can now expand the services we provide, including earlier involvement in the financing stage for the right project,” said Vinet in her own statement.
Proper Television is producing upcoming factual series like Storage Wars Canada for Rogers Media’s OLN and Masterchef Canada for Bell Media’s CTV.
Titles currently distributed by BuzzTaxi include Les Stroud’s Survivorman series and Canada’s Handyman Challenge.
