The Academy launches all-digital CSA application process

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television has entered into a partnership which allows applications for the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards to be done entirely online, including the sending in of supporting audio-visual files such as films and TV programs.

Previous to the partnership with Yangaroo, a Toronto-based provider of cloud-based digital media management services, submissions to the CSAs (and before that the separate Genie and Gemini awards) required the mailing of hard copies.

For the juries, secure links to streaming video clips will also be provided to them, ensuring a streamlined judging process.

The deal with Yangaroo, which also manages the Juno Awards as well as the Grammys, the Emmys and the MTV Video Music Awards, was announced Tuesday.

The pact “brings the Academy’s entry and voting systems into the digital age, making everything easier for our members,” says Louis Calabro, the Academy’s director of awards and special events.

The Academy’s application site for television and digital media entries is set to go live in mid-July, with a mid-August entry deadline for those categories. Film entries will open up mid-September, with a mid-October deadline.
