Mongrel Media has acquired Canadian rights to Joel and Ethan Coen’s feature drama Inside Llewyn Davis as part of a deal negotiated by UTA.
The film re-teams the Coen brothers with producer Scott Rudin, with whom they previously collaborated on No Country for Old Men and True Grit. It is also their fourth collaboration with music producer T Bone Burnett.
Inside Llewyn Davis follows a week in the life a young folk singer in Greenwich Village in 1961. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and Justin Timberlake. It also features music performed by Isaac, Timberlake and Mulligan, as well as Marcus Mumford and Punch Brothers.
Inside Llewyn Davis will world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19.
CBS Films will release the film in the U.S. starting Dec. 6 in New York and L.A. with an expansion on Dec. 20.
Mongrel plans a limited release on Dec. 20, with an expansion on Jan. 10, 2014.
