OUTtv pre-buys Sex & Violence

Vancouver-based LGBT network OUTtv has licensed six-part drama Sex & Violence on pre-sale, which reteams Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis and Canadian director Thom Fitzgerald.

The mini-series, written and directed by Cloudburst‘s Fitzgerald, is produced by Halifax’s Emotion Pictures.

Sex & Violence chronicles the lives of professionals, like a social worker, a therapist and a police officer, who work in the aftermath of domestic violence and how they maintain healthy personal relationships in the face of their affecting work.

The series, which is shooting in Nova Scotia, stars Dukakis, who is also exec producing, Jennie Raymond, Jackie Torrens and Naomi-Joy Blackhall-Butler.

Dukakis also starred in earlier Fitzgerald theatrical features like Cloudburst and 3 Needles.

Doug Pettigrew will manage the production for Emotion Pictures.

Sex & Violence is financed by Film and Cultural Industries Nova Scotia and the Eastlink TV Independent Production Fund.

The series will shoot through May in Nova Scotia, and is slated to premiere on OutTV in the fall.
