D Films lands distribution pact with Universal Studios

D Films and Univeral Studios Home Entertainment Canada have entered into a distribution agreement for the Canadian market.

Announced Wednesday and effective immediately, the deal sees Universal distributing D Films’ full portfolio of current and future film and television programs in the home entertainment marketplace in both traditional and digital formats.

The pact includes titles such as The Paperboy from Lee Daniels, Winnie, which stars Jennifer Hudson, Revolution, from doc maker Rob Stewart and Paul Haggis’ next theatrical feature Third Person.

“Universal is one of the most dynamic and respected brands in the world,” said D Films partner Darryl Iwai, in a statement.  “To have representation by an industry leader with the depth of knowledge and resources Universal has is a privilege that our films and organization will enjoy within the Canadian marketplace.”

“The market access and operating efficiencies this relationship creates will provide immediate benefits to our content and strategic partners alike,” added D Films partner Jim Sherry. “We look forward to the many opportunities this unique partnership creates in realizing value for both of our organizations.”
