Montreal-based Sardine Productions is expanding its Leon kids content to include a new interactive comic book app, in partnership with Société Radio-Canada.
The partnership sees the two companies jointly financing and promoting the comic book adventure apps that feature animated vignettes for iOS and Android.
The apps are available free for download in multiple languages, including English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Turkish.
“I’ve always been a fan of comic books. I’d have loved this format as a kid. It not only offers traditional pages, but also lets viewers enjoy over two minutes’ of animation featuring the hero of the story. This formula will be a hit with kids!” said Sardine Productions president Ghislain Cyr in a statement.
“Offering Leon in an interactive comic format, specially formulated for digital tablets, allows us to extend this rich, entertaining material into all platform categories,” said Frédéric Meschino, head of web youth content at Radio-Canada in his own statement.
The Leon kids book series, written and animated by Annie Groovie and distributed by échelle publishing company, is about a male Cyclops with a messy hairdo, and his adventures with his cycloptic friends.
Sardine Productions has in the past produced a 104 x 1 mins animated Leon series for Radio-Canada and the CBC, and several online games and apps for iOS and Android connected to the series.
