Canadians are following the money – into China.

Keanu Reeves’ production shingle Company Films has joined with Shanghai-based film company Fundamental to develop and co-finance future movies.

Launched in 2008, Fundamental releases foreign films in China, including recent titles likes Limitless, Killer Elite and The Grey.

Reeves’ co-development deal with Fundamental comes as the Canadian actor gets set to launch his directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi, about a martial artist, played by Tiger Hi, who is lured into an underground tournament in Beijing.

Reeves plans more projects in China, as he pacts with Fundamental on projects to be released in the fast-expanding Asian market by the local partner.

Elsewhere, Toronto-based Imax and Asian partner CGV Cinema of Korea are to collaborate on a 3D historical docudrama about Beijing.

Imperial City, Beijing earlier signed up James Cameron’s Cameron Pace Group to co-produce the project.

Part of the film, which has backing from the China Film Group as a co-producer, will be shot in Beijing’s Forbidden City.
