Canadian indie producer David Cormican has acquired the rights to Kim Izzo’s debut novel The Jane Austen Marriage Manual.
Cormican, working with co-producer Tonya Lee Williams, will develop and co-produce the project into a feature film under his recently-formed production shingle Up, Up and Away, in association with Don Carmody Productions.
The Jane Austen Marriage Manual tells the story of a beauty/fashion editor with a love of Jane Austen, who ends up in emotional and financial crises as she approaches 40. Tasked with a freelance gig, she finds herself torn between Mr. Rich and Mr. Right.
“Kim has written a charming, witty, modern-day love story with laugh-out-loud moments begging to be played out on screen for audiences the world over. The characters are well-developed and relatable and lend themselves incredibly well for the screen,” said Cormican in a statement.
The indie producer, whose recent credits include Canada-France treaty copros The Tall Man and Faces In The Crowd, recently partnered with Don Carmody on new TV shingle Don Carmody Television.
The deal for the novel was negotiated between Cormican and Leslie Conliffe of Intellectual Property Group.
