This bodes well for a second season of The Bachelor Canada in 2014.
Warner Bros. has sold the first season of the Rogers/City dating competition series to Astral Media’s MusiquePlus and MusiMax channels.
The French language services will sub-title the original The Bachelor Canada series, which aired in Quebec on then Metro 14 before it was rebranded as City Montreal.
The Musique Plus/MusiMax pickup comes fast on the heels of the first window on City, and marks a rare acquisition of an original series by a rival broadcaster.
City has seen its U.S. Community sitcom air on The Comedy Network and ABC’s The Bachelor has aired on Cosmo TV in Canada and ABC Family Channel stateside.
Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media, cited the quality of the rookie season of The Bachelor Canada, which saw Brad Smith propose to Bianka Kamber, for the Astral Media pickup.
“To have a Canadian broadcast competitor choose to air The Bachelor Canada on their network is a true testament to the world-class quality of original Canadian content that Rogers Media is committed to and continues to produce,” said Freeland, who also executive produced The Bachelor Canada, in a statement.
The Bachelor Canada will bow on MusiquePlus/MusiMax on April 8.
