Three Vancouver Film School graduates are bound for Cannes to show their 13 minute drama as part of the festival’s Short Film Corner.
Director Arlein Perez Garcia, producer Lesly Cazares and writer Lynn Sternberger will see their graduating production, Butterfly, screen at the Cannes Film Festival as short film producers and directors gather to meet, view one another’s films and shape their future careers.
Cazares recalls doing a double-take when receiving the acceptance email from the world’s biggest film festival.
“When I got the news that we were selected for Cannes, I needed to read the email twice, I wasn’t sure if I was reading it well,” said Cazares in a statement.
Butterfly follows the random interactions between a father, played by Nelson Leis, a 7-year-old girl (Imogen Tear), and a wife, co-worker, an alcoholic writer and an elderly lesbian caring for her demented partner.
The ensemble cast includes Erin Aubrey, Winslow Holmes, Jesse Pierce, Frances Flanagan and Patti Palm.
