CBC, TLC pick up Mentorn’s Pistorius doc

CBC, U.S. net TLC and a host of other international broadcasters have all acquired Mentorn Media’s quick turnaround doc on Oscar Pistorius and the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The documentary, which aired on BBC3 in the U.K. under the title Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened? (pictured above), scored ratings of 1.2 million on Tuesday (March 12), making it the highest rated current affairs doc to date for the network.

Passion Distribution has now sold the doc to a raft of international channels. In addition to the U.S. and Canada, the doc has been sold to Australia (ABC), Belgium (VRT), New Zealand (TVNZ), Norway (TV Norge), Sweden (SVT), Finland (YLE), and an undisclosed network in France.

Discovery has also agreed a deal covering its networks across CEEMEA. In all, the doc has sold into 116 territories so far.

In the U.S., TLC will air the doc on March 27 at 10 p.m. EST under the title Blade Runner: The Untold Story.

“This is a fascinating story that will resonate with our audience,” said David Melia, VP of programming at TLC. “Mentorn’s unique access and storytelling make this an hour not to be missed.”
