Canadian festival Hot Docs has unveiled 19 projects that will be presented during this year’s Hot Docs Forum, two of which come from Montreal-based EyeSteelFilm.
The projects represent 13 different countries and were culled from 149 submissions. This year, the co-financing Forum’s public pitches will take place the mornings of May 1 and 2, while its new Deal Maker initiative will take place in the afternoons.
“The 2013 Hot Docs Forum will be two dynamic mornings of pitches and feedback, launching the most ground breaking works-in-progress docs with intense networking and professional development opportunities for all in attendance,” said Hot Docs industry programs director Elizabeth Radshaw in a statement.
Participating buyers confirmed for the Forum so far include representatives from Arte, the BBC, CBC/SRC, CNN Films, DR TV, HBO, Hulu, MSNBC, National Geographic Channel, NHK, PBS, ProSiebenSat.1, Rai, SBS, SVT, TVOntario and YLE.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Shaw Media-Hot Docs Funds’ Hot Docs Forum Pitch Prize will be awarded to the best Canadian pitch at the event, as determined by a committee of international (non-Canadian) commissioning editors in attendance. The winner will receive a CAD$10,000 (US$9,740) cash prize to be used toward the production and completion budget for their project.
Hot Docs will announce the projects selected for Deal Maker on April 3. The 2013 edition of the festival runs from April 25-May 5.
