CBC-Radio Canada and NFB pact with Via Rail

Canada’s original social network – the passenger railway – is launching On-Board Entertainment, a multi-platform and interactive screen-entertainment service with partners CBC/Radio-Canada, the National Film Board of Canada and The Historica-Dominion Institute.

Content from the broadcaster and the film board will be made available to Via Rail train passengers for free, according to an announcement Monday. It’s reportedly the only train service in North America offering such fare, Via said.

Trains running in the Québec City – Windsor corridor will begin offering the service this spring.

The programming, in French and English, is to include CBC/Radio-Canada TV shows and newscasts, documentaries and animation from the NFB, and Heritage Minutes vignettes and Memory Project veteran interviews produced by the institute.

Other content will be added over time.
