Principal photography has wrapped in Toronto on Debug, an intergalactic sci-fi thriller film written and directed by actor David Hewlett (pictured) whose credits include roles in Cube and Stargate Atlantis.
The theatrical feature, which is backed by Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation, was filmed at Pinewood Studios with release slated for early 2014. It is produced by Steven Hoban (Splice, Wolves) and executive produced by Mark Smith (Haunter, 388 Arletta Ave.), Jane Loughman (A Dog’s Breakfast, The Trial of Ben Barry) and John Raymonds (Haunter, Trust Me).
Haunter was screen at SWSX this week.
The story follows six young hackers on a work release program in which they must debug a derelict space freighter’s computer systems while evading its killer artificial intelligence program.
It stars Jeananne Goossen (The Vow, Alcatraz), Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), Adam Butcher (Wolves, Mirror, Mirror), Kjartan Hewitt (Scott Pilgrim vs the World, This Movie is Broken), Sidney Leeder (Goon), Jaydn Wong (Cosmopolis), Adrian Holmes (Elysium, Red Riding Hood) and Kyle Mac (Carrie).
The cinematography is by Gavin Smith (Wolves, 388 Arletta Avenue), production design is by Michelle Lannon (Compulsion), and its costume design is by Patrick Antosh (Wolves, Haunter).
Entertainment One has acquired Canadian rights to the film.
