Toronto actress Laura Vandervoort is getting Bitten.
Announced Saturday at Toronto ComiCon, Vandervoort is taking the lead in upcoming homegrown series Bitten for Bell Media’s Space channel.
Produced by Vancouver-based No Equal Entertainment and Hoodwink Entertainment and Toronto’s eOne, Bitten is based on the Women of the Otherworld sci-fi-horror novels by Canuck author Kelley Armstrong.
Vandervoort will play the series’ main character, Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf. The series centres on Michaels, who finds refuge in Toronto after leaving her Pack in Stonehaven. She must return to Stonehaven out of duty when the Pack is threatened and bodies start turning up in its backwoods.
Bitten is exec produced by J.B. Sugar (The Collector, JPod) for No Equal Entertainment, and John Barbisan and Patrick Banister for Hoodwink Entertainment. Exec producers and co-showrunners are Daegan Fryklind and Grant Rosenberg.
eOne is distributing the series internationally.
Bitten is slated to begin production in Toronto in April.
