Telefilm invests in four French-language features

Telefilm Canada this week announced that it is backing production of four French-language feature films through the Canada Feature Film Fund.

Ghosts, written and directed by Stéphane Lapointe, is produced by Item 7, the prodco behind Canada’s recent foreign Oscar contender War Witch.

The film centres on a successful author who turns to using a ghostwriter to pen his novels, and then must turn to yet another writer, leading them together on an unexpected journey. The film is distributed by Alliance Vivafilm, and stars Antoine Bertrand, Marc Labrèche and Robin Aubert.

Also receiving support are Les Loups, a drama written and directed by Sophie Deraspe and produced by Corporation ACPAV, to be distributed by Les Films Séville, and Le Relampeur, written and directed by Martin Talbot and produced by Christal Films Productions. The period fantasy feature will be distributed by Les Films Christal.

And also receiving backing is Tu dors Nicole, written and directed by Stéphane Lafleur and produced by Monsieur Lazhar prodco micro_scope. Distributed by Les Films Christal, the drama follows the unexpected turn of events that occurs when a young girl and her best friend spend the week together in her family home while her parents are away and her older brother shows up.

The announcement comes as part of the second round of 2013-2014 decisions for French-language projects in Telefilm’s redesigned production program.
