Paris-based distributor Wide House has sealed a deal that sees British Columbia filmmaker Jonathan Holiff’s Johnny Cash doc My Father And The Man In Black receive theatrical release in the U.K. and Ireland.

The agreement was penned with London-based Ballpark Film Distributors, with New Chapter Productions helping to seal the deal.

The film chronicles the relationship between Cash and Canadian-born Saul Holiff, his longtime manager and the doc-maker’s father. It was shot on 35 MM “with no talking heads” using unseen footage and more than 60 hours of audio diaries and phone calls taped with Cash in the 1960s and 1970s. The trove was discovered in a storage locker following Saul Holiff’s suicide in 2005.

Ballpark will release the film theatrically in the U.K. and Ireland this spring with the DVD following in mid-September to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Cash’s death that month.

Wide House holds European rights to the film. North American rights are still available.
