Space not renewing Primeval: New World for second season

The sci-fi series Primeval: New World from Omnifilm Entertainment and Entertainment One has gone extinct on Space after its debut season.

Bell Media has confirmed the Canadian sci-fi series will not been renewed for a second season.

The decision follows crunch talks to possibly save the series this week.

Audience growth during the rookie season for the spin-off of the British hit series apparently failed to materialize, even after a schedule move in January from Monday to Tuesday nights.

Sources at the broadcaster said Primeval: New World faced a persistent weekly ratings decline since its debut.

Space has a host of new Canadian sci-fi series in the pipeline, including Orphan Black, the biological thriller to bow on March 30, and the upcoming Panic Button and Bitten dramas.

Entertainment One is handling international distribution of Primeval: New World.

A spokesman for Syfy said the Canadian series is on track to air on the U.S. cable channel.
