Production has begun on the second season of period drama Copper, Cineflix Studios’ first scripted series, produced in association with BBC America and Shaw Media.
Joining the cast for the second season is Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy). He plays a general who has recently returned from the Civil War battlefields.
The series also stars Tom Weston-Jones, Kyle Schmid, Anastasia Griffith, Franka Potente and Ato Essandoh.
Kevin Ryan, Dylan Taylor, Kiara Glasco and Tessa Thompson round out the returning cast.
Copper, set in 1865 New York City, centres on an Irish-American cop working the notorious Five Points Neighbourhood.
Writer-novelist Thomas Kelly joins the production as an exec producer for the second season, alongside creators Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson and Will Rokos.
Cineflix Studios president Christina Wayne, Sherri Rufh, Sam Berliner and Katherine Buck are also exec producers. Larysa Kondracki is co-exec producer/director.
Nomadic Pictures co-founders Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes have also been tapped to oversee production of the second season.
Germany’s Beta Film holds distribution rights for territories including Germany, France, Southern and Eastern Europe and parts of Asia. Cineflix Rights is distributing the series in all other territories outside of North America.
Copper is shooting in Toronto through July 2013.
