Following the film’s premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, eOne has acquired U.S. rights to Jim Mickle’s horror thriller We Are What We Are.
The film is a re-imagining of the 2010 Mexican film of the same name, about a wholesome and introverted family that struggles to keep its macabre ancestral customs alive.
We Are What We Are was written by Mickle and Nick Damici, who also stars in the film. Mickle and Damici have previously collaborated on screenplays for Mickle’s first two features.
Bill Sage, Ambryr Childers and Julia Garner star in the film, along with Michael Parks, Kelly McGillis, Wyatt Russell and newcomer Jack Gore.
We Are What We Are is produced by Rodrigo Bellott, Andrew D. Corkin, Linda Moran, Nicholas Shumaker and Jack Turner.
The deal was negotiated by Mark Ankner and Christine D’Souza for WME global, Andre des Rochers for Gray Krauss Stratford Des Rochers LLP, Emilie Georges for Memento Films Internaitonal and eOne’s VP worldwide acquisitions Sejin Croninger.
eOne also has rights to the film for the U.K., Canada, France, Scandanavia and South Africa. Memento Films International is handling international sales.
eOne is planning for a U.S. theatrical release in late 2013.
