Principal photography will begin on Jan. 22 on TomGirl Films’ feature Tru Love, directed by Kate Johnston.

The film stars Shauna MacDonald (Trailer Park Boys), Kate Trotter (Lost Girl), Christine Horne (Sex After Kids) and Peter MacNeill (Call Me Fitz).

Johnston and MacDonald co-wrote the script for Tru Love, about a widow who strikes up an unlikely relationship with a commitment-phobic lesbian (who is also her high-strung daughter’s friend).

TomGirl Films is in the final days of an Indigogo campaign, launched in December, to raise funds for post-production.

Tru Love is exec produced by Chris Agoston. MacDonald, Johnston and Chris Luckhardt are producing, with Matthew Gorman, Jessica Adams and Vanessa Chiara co-producing.

Maya Bankovic is cinematographer, Tiffany Beaudin is editor and Ginger Martini is overseeing costume design.
