Cogeco Fund invests more than $4 million in TV drama in 2011-2012

The Cogeco Fund invested more than $4 million in 26 television drama productions in fiscal 2011-2012, it reported last week in its annual report.

The fund was established in 1992 with a $5 million endowment to support production and development of homegrown fare.

In fiscal 2011-2012, the fund in its development program supported four projects with an investment of $30,000.

And 12 projects received a total of $82,000 in pre-development funding, including Bango’s Magic Pants from CarpeDiem Film & TV, Duck and Covers from Shaftesbury, Grim Hill from Wizard Hat Productions and Station Q from Sphinx Productions.

The production program disbursed $4.36 million to 26 projects.

Those included for the CBC second seasons of 19-2 and Arctic Air, the premiere season of Cracked, season six of Murdoch Mysteries and a fourth season of Republic of Doyle.

Also supported in the production program were Bomb Girls for Global, feature film Hold Fast for TMN, and Yub Yubs for Family Channel.

Bell Media MOW’s Borealis and Horses of McBride for CTV, along with upcoming series Motive (CTV) and Orphan Black (Space) also received investment from the production program.

And Coop Video de Montreal, Foundation Feature and South Creek Pictures received a total of $105,000 through the feature film development program.

In the past 20 years, the Cogeco Fund has invested $37 million in 191 productions, 454 programs in development and 48 pre-development projects.
