The Hunger Games is headed to Netflix in Canada on Dec. 31, before U.S. Netflix subscribers get to see the Lionsgate teen tentpole online.

The deal with Alliance Films sees the international box office performer come to Netflix Canada, a pure online delivery service, as part of an exclusive deal with the Canadian indie distributor.

That’s before The Hunger Games arrives at Netflix stateside via a separate supply deal the U.S. video streaming giant has with Lionsgate’s Epix service.

“We are excited to be the exclusive online home for The Hunger Games in Canada, and we think that our Canadian members are going to be thrilled with the latest addition to the service,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, in a statement.

“We are pleased that our continued relationship with Alliance benefits our subscribers directly,” he added.
