Indiecan Entertainment acquires Slaughter Nick for President

Avi Federgreen’s Indiecan Entertainment has acquired the Canadian releasing rights to the feature documentary Slaughter Nick for President.

The quirky documentary by directors Rob Stewart, Liza Vespi and Marc Vespi portrays Stewart as a Canadian actor from a cheesy detective drama Tropical Heat who becomes a political sensation in war-torn Serbia.

Slaughter Nick for President, which debuted at the North by Northeast Music & Film Festival and won the best documentary prize at the Zagreb International Film Festival, sees Stewart’s luck as an out-of-work Canadian actor change after late 2008 when he discovered via Facebook that for two decades he had been a media sensation in Serbia.

That fame sprung from a long-forgotten role by Stewart as the beach-bum detective Nick Slaughter in the TV series Tropical Heat.

The film follows Stewart’s 2009 Serbian visit, dubbed ‘Slaughtermania’ by the national press.

Indiecan Entertainment will release Slaughter Nick For President in Canadian theatres in early 2013.
