Victoria, B.C.-based Less Bland Productions has secured a broadcast license with Super Channel for its planned feature-length documentary about Canucks in Tinseltown called Gone South: How Canada Invented Hollywood.

The documentary is based on a book of the same name by Ian Ferguson that is soon to be published, Less Bland says in a statement.

The project has received financial backing from the Rogers Documentary Fund and will be distributed in Canada by KinoSmith. Principal photography is scheduled for spring 2013.

It is being produced and directed by Less Bland’s executive producer Leslie Bland and Ferguson.

As the title suggests, the book and doc look at the historical links between the Great White North and the U.S. film industry. The filmmakers say they are approaching numerous Canadian screen entertainers and insiders for interviews.
