Actor Sarah Gadon will receive the 2012 Crystal Award for international achievement, Women in Film and Television – Toronto announced Monday.
The award recognizes a Canadian woman working in screen-based media for her well-recognized body of work in Canada and abroad.
“At 25, she is our youngest international achievement award winner to date, but her extensive body of work – which spans Canada, Europe and the United States – makes her a most deserving recipient,” said WIFT-T executive director Heather Webb in a statement.
Also named one of Playback‘s 10 to Watch in 2011 and winner of Playback‘s 2012 Breakout Award, Gadon has recently taken on roles in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis, Mary Harron’s The Moth Diaries and Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral.
Her small screen credits include World Without End, the miniseries based on Ken Follett’s novel, which aired on Showcase and Global. Gadon was earlier this year also an inaugural recipient of the Birks Canadian Diamond at the Cannes Film Festival.
Upcoming projects for Gadon include Denis Villeneuve’s An Enemy, U.K. director’s Amma Asante’s Belle, and Gadon’s own directorial debut of a half-hour episode in the six-part doc series Reelside, produced by Toronto-based Fifth Ground Entertainment.
She will receive the award at the Crystal Awards Gala on Dec. 4, to be hosted by Jeanne Beker (also announced Monday).
