Henri Audet, founder of the Quebec-based Canadian media giant Cogeco, died on Saturday, November 3 at age 94 years.
His son, Louis Audet, who heads up the business his father launched in 1957 as a commercial TV station in Trois-Rivieres, confirmed the passing on Monday.
“In the name of the board of directors of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Cable Inc., as well as in the names of all the employees, I wish to convey our most
sincere condolences to the whole Audet family,” Jan Peeters, president of the boards of directors of Cogeco and Cogeco Cable, said in a statement.
Henri Audet was president and CEO of Cogeco until 1993, when he handed over the company reins to Louis Audet.
In the same year, Henri Audet stepped down as president and CEO of Cogeco Cable, a subsidiary, and remained president emeritus of the company at the time of his death.
The control of Cogeco, today a major Canadian cable and media group, is held by Gestion Audem, a family-controlled holding company.
