Mark McInnis and Chris Irwin will executive produce the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia for the CBC, it was announced Tuesday.
McInnis will oversee planning and story-telling in the lead-up to Sochi, while Irwin will oversee live programming during the Games.
“Mark brings a wealth of experience and expertise, and with his background in entertainment programming, we’re sure he’ll bring an added value to our sports broadcasts that Canadians will love. Chris is simply the best at what he does, and he’s proven that several times over in his time with CBC,” said Julie Bristow, CBC English services executive director of studio and unscripted programming, in a statement.
The CBC is creating an Olympic executive production team because of the pubcaster’s planned increased emphasis on entertainment programming across not only sports, but all genres, for the Winter Games, according to a statement from the CBC.
Veteran TV exec McInnis most recently worked as VP production for Much/MTV Group at Bell Media. He previously worked as a producer at Insight Productions and as an executive producer with CTV.
In addition to his new role at the public broadcaster, he will also produce select live entertainment event programming for CBC Television.
Irwin was worked at the CBC since 1993, most recently as executive producer of sports content since 2008. He worked as part of the CBC’s Olympic production teams from 1996 to 2008, including as senior coordinating producer for the pubcaster’s Olympic coverage from 2004 to 2008.
