Union Pictures has added Sally Potter’s Ginger & Rosa to its 2013 release slate after acquiring the Canadian rights at the American Film Market.

The coming-of-age drama about two teenage girls in 1962 London amid the fallout of a nuclear threat and family discord stars Elle Fanning and Alice Englert.

The film bowed in Telluride before a Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Union Pictures’s Robin Cass, Sandra Cunningham and Cam Haynes negotiated the Canadian distribution deal with Bart Walker and Ram Murali of Cinetic Media.

The Canadian theatrical release will coincide with a stateside roll-out of Potter’s film by U.S. distributor A24.

In other Canadan AFM news, Entertainment One has inked a multi-territory distribution deal for Stung, the monster film from XYZ Films and Germany’s The Rat Pack.

The Canadian distributor pre-bought director Benni Diez’ Stung, about wasps turning into killing machines, for Canada, Britain, South Africa and Scandinavia as part of a deal with Celluloid Nightmares,.

Stung will be shot in Europe in spring 2013.
