As part of a strategy of establishing output agreements with leading distributors around the world, Lionsgate has forged an output deal with Belgium’s Belga Films for distribution of Lionsgate titles in Benelux.

The news was unveiled Thursday.

“We are pleased to expand Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment’s longstanding relationship with Belga Films into an output agreement encompassing films from both the Lionsgate and Summit labels,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairmen Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman. “From Summit’s The Twilight Saga to Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, we have partnered successfully with Belga on our big franchise films in the past, and this new agreement is a natural evolution of our productive relationship.”

“This output agreement provides us with a consistent pipeline of some of the most commercially exciting films in the world, including the next three installments of the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise,” continued Jerome de Bethune, COO of Belga Films.

Thursday’s pact is the latest milestone in Lionsgate’s creation of an international distribution network. It recently formed output partnerships covering Germany, Scandinavia,  Spain,  Australia and France, as well as self-distribution through Lionsgate U.K. in the UK and a self-distribution partnership with IDC in Latin America.

The Benelux deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Wachsberger and Lionsgate executive VP International Legal and Business Affairs Michael Meyer.

For its part, under the company’s new Belga Studios label, Belga said it is currently developing movie projects in English for international appeal with a specific focus on the use of local talents.
