WIFT-T announces Crystal Award winners

Shaw Media’s Tara Ellis and Pink Sky Entertainment’s Anne Marie La Traverse are among this year’s WIFT-T Crystal Award honourees.

Women in Film and Television – Toronto on Monday unveiled the winners of the 25 th Anniversary Crystal Awards, which recognize achievements of Canadian women and men in screen-based media.

“[The winners’] collective work spans broadcasting, television production, sports and live events, and private consulting, and for their contributions to Canadian media these trailblazers are most deserving of a WIFT-T Crystal Award,” said WIFT-T executive director Heather Webb in a statement.

Shaw Media senior director of original drama content Tara Ellis receives the Creative Excellence Award, acknowledging work in screen-based media that has received national and/or international attention in the previous year, while Susan Ross, consultant and partner at marketing and content development firm ISM Access receives the Mentorship Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to building women’s careers in screen-based media.

Pink Sky Entertainment president Anne Marie La Traverse (pictured), executive producer of Flashpoint, receives the Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes a major contribution to screen-based media through quality and leadership, and Dome Productions senior VP and GM Mary Ellen Carlyle receives the Special Jury Award of Distinction, an accolade award periodically to a woman who has shown commitment to building a creative and diverse community in the screen-based industry.

This year’s selection jury consisted of CBC executive director of studio and unscripted content Julie Bristow, Shaw Media VP original content Christine Shipton, and President of Tattersall Sound and Picture Jane Tattersall.

The Crystal Awards will be presented on Dec. 4 at a gala luncheon at Arcadian Court in downtown Toronto.
