American Mary cleans up at Screamfest Horror Film Fest

The Canadian horror/thriller American Mary dominated the prize-giving at the 12th Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The indie pic from Vancouver-based IndustryWorks took the best picture prize from the American genre festival for the body mod horror romp, while twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska earned the best director trophy.

The Skully awards, handed out at the end of 12th edition of Screamfest’s 10-day run on October 21, also gave American Mary lead Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) the best actress prize, MastersFX the best makeup prize and Brian Pearson the best cinematography trophy for his work on the Canadian pic.

The Screamfest success follows Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada taking the Canadian releasing rights to American Mary last week as the film had its Canadian premiere at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
