Cineplex Entertainment on Monday announced that it will expand its VIP Cinema concept by building Canada’s first standalone VIP Cinema at the Shops at Don Mills, in the Greater Toronto Area.
“VIP Cinemas have been exceptionally well received by our guests in other markets and we know they will be a huge hit with movie-goers in Toronto,” said Cineplex president and CEO Ellis Jacob in a statement.
“VIP Cinemas have been an overwhelmingly successful addition to our circuit. Our Toronto guests have long asked for more access to the VIP experience. Today, we are answering that demand,” said Pat Marshall, Cineplex VP communications and investor relations, in her own statement.
The company is also adding VIP Cinemas at the SilverCity Yonge-Eglinton and Cineplex Odeon Queensway theatre locations (both in Ontario).
The new construction at the Don Mills location, expected to open in late 2014, will be a 21,000 sq.ft. five-screen VIP theatre with valet parking.
The Yonge-Eglinton cinemas will see a 13,000 sq.ft. expansion to add three VIP auditoriums to the existing nine traditional auditoriums. The theatre will be rebranded to include the VIP Cinemas handle in its name, to open in late 2014.
And the Queensway location, also rebranding as Cineplex Odeon Queensway and VIP Cinemas, will expand by approximately 12,000 sq.ft, and will feature five VIP and 15 traditional auditoriums, and is expected to open in late 2013.
The upgraded movie-watching concept is open to adults only, offers licenced auditoriums, menu service at customers’ seats, a licenced lounge, a dedicated box office and advance seat reservation.
Cineplex currently operates five VIP Cinemas, in Coquitlam, B.C., Edmonton, Alberta; London, Oakville and Toronto (Varsity) in Ontario, and recently announced plans to open another as part of the downtown Markham development.
