eOne inks international deals for Primeval: New World

Entertainment One has sold upcoming one-hour mythological action series Primeval: New World into multiple territories, including the U.S., France and Turkey.

Primeval: New World is incredibly important to the eOne portfolio,” eOne Television senior VP, worldwide sales and acquisitions, Prentiss Fraser said in a statement.

She noted that with Primeval already being an established brand, and great visuals thanks to the work of Vancouver-based VFX house Atmosphere, “the show was sure to be a success for our television division but as a home entertainment property as well.”

In the U.S., Syfy picked up basic cable rights, while VOD platform Hulu picked up SVOD and AVOD for its free, ad-supported Hulu product and its Hulu Plus subscription service.

In France, Syfy took pay TV rights and NRJ12 took free digital terrestrial TV rights, while D-Smart took pay-TV rights in Turkey. AXN took pay TV rights in Italy, while Sci-Fi Channel took basic cable rights in Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina and Albania.

The Space series has also been sold to German free-to-air broadcaster ProSieben and U.K. pay TV channel UKTV.

Primeval: New World, produced by Omni Film Productions and filmed in Vancouver, is a North American spin-off of the original U.K. series from Impossible Pictures, and follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates temporal anomalies and battles prehistoric and futuristic creatures.

It stars a slew of Canadian talent, including Niall Matter and Sara Canning.

The series is exec produced by Martin Wood and Gillian Horvath, and Gabriela Schonbach and Michael Chechik for Omni Film, and created by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. Horvath, Peter Hume, Jon Cooksey, Sarah Dodd, Katherine Collins and Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens helm the writers’ room.

Primeval: New World premieres on Space on Oct. 29.
