There’s nothing new in actors taking classes to make it in show business.

But the Toronto Academy of Acting for Film & Television is launching a four-month full-time program from Oct. 1, after securing private college status.

And the intensive 360 hours of training in the new program has among its goals helping actors nail that audition, on their way to securing and sustaining a career.

“It’s not enough to offer acting classes anymore,” Acting Academy founder and director Susan Burych said.

Her college’s new condensed program aims to discover whether an aspiring actor has “the right stuff” to make it through the audition process, before graduating into a Toronto production sector brimming with new film and TV projects from low budget to Hollywood blockbuster fare.

To that end, college graduates will learn how to act on camera, and not only the stage as is traditional with acting school, and create a demo reel.

And a mentoring program will allow graduates to better seize opportunities in current and future Toronto productions.
