Canadian mini-studio Lionsgate on Tuesday said the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay worldwide movie release will be split into two installments.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will receive a wide release from November 21, 2014, while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will arrive at the local multiplex on November 20, 2015.

Splitting the Hunger Games finale into two parts aims to get as much mileage out of the teen movie franchise after the theatrical and upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray release of the original The Hunger Games release, and the theatrical rollout of the sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The Hunger Games grossed around $392 million at the North American box office for Vancouver-based Lionsgate, and secured about $650 million in worldwide ticket receipts.
