Canada becomes 2012 country of honour at MIPCOM

Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund have partnered with MIPCOM to stage a Canadian industry spotlight at the upcoming MIPCOM market.

Canada will be the MIPCOM 2012 country of honour, with conference speakers, screening and talent showcases and business matchmaking events structured around the usual Canadian presence in Cannes.

The tribute to Canadian film, TV and digital product will start at MIPJunior on Oct. 6 and 7, and run throughout MIPCOM from Oct. 8 to 11.

In particular, the MIPCOM focus will cover co-productions across all media, as Telefilm Canada continues a push towards Canadian producers partnering with foreign players to increase their project budgets and outputs, as well as awareness back home by Canadian audiences.

“With more than 228 Canadian companies present at MIPCOM, including a wide range of independent producers and major television and film studios, and encompassing both English and French-language productions, Canada has been one of the most inspiring and active global players in the television industry for as long as we can remember,” Laurine Garaude, director of Reed MIDEM’s TV division, said Thursday in a statement.
