Canadian Film Centre’s Project Lab in Whistler kicks off

Double Hope Films’ Ted Hope, Laird Anderson of Magnolia Pictures and Ben Cotner of Open Road Films are among the filmmaking mentors participating in the sixth annual Canadian Film Centre project lab in Whistler this week.

They, and other industry mentors, are providing key feedback for five Canadian film producers and their projects, including Paul Scherzer of Six Island Productions, Paul Audet of Cirrus Communications, and Ziad Touma of Couzin Films.

Rounding out the producer lab in Whistler is Wendy Ord of Mountain Lake Films and Mary Anne Waterhouse of Quadrant Motion Pictures.

Scherzer is bringing to Whistler the theatrical comedy In Deep Water, written by Mike Downie and Justin Simms, while Audet will present the action/drama Boost, from writer/director Darren Curtis.

And Touma will bring to Whistler the psychological thriller Wall of Sound, by writer/director Erin Laing, Ord has the neo-noir Rock Bottom that she co-wrote and will direct with Glen Samuel, while Waterhouse is looking for feedback on the theatrical comedy The Steps, written by Robyn Harding.

Also mentoring in Whistler is WME Global packaging Agent Mark Ankner, casting director Mark Bennett and film distribution exec Kathy Morgan of Kathy Morgan International.

The four-day project lab is running to June 27.
