Citytv’s Canada’s Got Talent not coming back for second season

Rogers Media has decided against a second season of Canada’s Got Talent.

Indie producer Insight Productions, which produced the local version of international Got Talent franchise for Citytv, was told of the decision Friday morning.

“After careful consideration of all factors, including the current economic climate, Citytv has refocused its programming strategy and will not be producing Canada’s Got Talent for the 2012-13 season,” Rogers Media president of broadcasting Scott Moore said Friday in a statement.

“Citytv remains extremely proud of Canada’s Got Talent and the national platform it provided to showcase our inaugural Canada’s Got Talent reality competition show,” he added.

Canada’s Got Talent is based on the format from FremantleMedia and Syco Entertainment, and the first season was executive produced by John Brunton and Barbara Bowlby.
