Vancouver-based Remedy Canada, a recently launched indie focusing on unscripted lifestyle and entertainment programming, has named Toby Dormer (pictured) as its president.

The new role will see Dormer, a Canadian resident originally from the U.K., overseeing development, production and all business operations for the production company, which forms part of the Argonon group.

The news comes after Transatlantic prodco Leopard Films and U.K. indie Remedy Productions united last May to launch Argonon, a super-indie helmed by Leopard CEO James Burstall.

Argonon announced at the time that Remedy’s joint MDs – Dormer and Juliet Borges – had taken a “significant stake” in the new company, with both taking a seat on its board. Today’s appointment sees Dormer expanding his role in the venture.

In Tandem with the appointment, Argonon said it is also making “a significant investment” in Remedy Canada, although financial details were not disclosed.

“It’s exciting to be launching Remedy Canada in Vancouver, and to be working with the extraordinary talent that resides here,” said Dormer.

“Our goal is to develop in Canada a broad range of highly entertaining lifestyle formats with compelling stories that are embraced by Canadian audiences, and to bring that programming to the world.”

Burstall added: “In Toby Dormer, Remedy Canada has secured an extremely creative, experienced and progressive leader; his background and vision for the company will provide broadcasters with exciting new avenues for developing unique talent, and delivering top-quality content.”

Prior to last May’s merger, Remedy Productions had predominantly created music and youth-focused programming for British nets including the BBC, Channel 4 and MTV.
