Canadian production equipment supplier Sim Digital has acquired the finishing division of Master Key, the Los Angeles-based post-production facility.
The Master Key deal follows Sim continuing to shift away from its roots in the camera rental business into a full-service production and post-production services shop, not least by acquiring Bling Digital in 2009.
“With both the Master Key and Bling Digital acquisitions, Sim places itself in a position where we can offer our clients a complete package of services, from the camera all the way to a color-corrected master for broadcast,” James Martin, Sim’s chief strategy officer, said in a statement.
The range of services at Sim Digital now includes cameras, on-set data management, digital dailies, Avid and FCP system rentals and, with Master Key, conform and color-correction services.
Terms of the deal for Master Key were not disclosed, but company co-owner Elan Dassani will join Sim Digital as vice-president of Bling Finishing Services.
Also joining the Toronto-based company is veteran colorist Chris Jacobson as vice president of creative services.
