Canadian copro Kristina of Sweden names lead actress

Malin Buska (pictured), who was named Rising Star of the Stockholm Film Festival, will star in Canadian copro Kristina of Sweden, from Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki.

The film, a multinational co-production, is slated to begin shooting in February 2013 in Sweden and Germany, with post-production work being done in Canada.

Kristina of Sweden focuses on the life of the young queen and historical figure, who reigned from the age of six until she abdicated the throne at age 28.

German actress Martina Gedeck will play Kristina’s mother in the film.

Toronto-based Triptych Media, Sweden’s Anagram Film AB, Finland’s Marianna Films, Germany’s Starhaus Filmproduktion and France’s Arsam International are producing the film, with a screenplay from Canadian Michel Marc Bouchard (Lilies/Les Feluettes).

Kristina of Sweden is being developed with the participation of Telefilm Canada, The Finnish Film Foundation, The Harold Greenberg Fund and Corus Made for Pay Fund.

Stockholm-based The Yellow Affair will handle international sales for the film.
