Montreal World Film Festival launches China Film Business Week

Looking to provide access to the North American market for Chinese film producers, the Montreal World Film Festival is launching its inaugural China Film Business Week at its upcoming 36th edition.

Eyeing opportunities raised by the rapid growth of the film industry in China, decision makers from China will descend on Montreal, as part of the festival’s film market from August 23 to September 3, 2012.

“The aim is to bring the burgeoning Chinese film industry on a permanent basis to North America,” MWFF president Serge Losique said in a statement.

“All facets of the Chinese film industry will be in attendance in Montreal – co-production, distribution, acquisition, along with a wide range of representatives of Chinese television and related media,” he added.

The idea is to hold panels and meetings to encourage future co-productions between Canada, other foreign countries and China.

Details of the Montreal World Film Festival will be announced in early June.
