W Network bolsters Wednesday night schedule

Corus Entertainment’s W Network has picked up new series Backyard Inventors (14 x 30 minutes) and the hidden camera game show Deal With It (10 x 30 minutes) for its Wednesday night lineup.

“While very different shows, they both play on the theme that creativity mixed with bravery can lead to a windfall,” said Vibika Bianchi, VP of original programming, lifestyle, reality, factual entertainment for Corus Entertainment, in a statement.

Bianchi told Playback last month, following a 30-ep re-order of Undercover Boss Canada, that a programming change-up for the network was in the works.

Backyard Inventors offers a chance to root for amateur inventors as they bring their ideas for everyday products to life and potential financial success. Deal With It challenges diners to a surprise game of outrageous gags for money while their unsuspecting dinner companion watches in awe,” she added in a statement.

Produced by Just for Laughs in association with W network, Deal With It is based on an Israeli format that has been produced in more than 10 countries.

In the hidden camera comedy game show, contestants are asked to perform an increasingly difficult and hilarious series of challenges to win cash, all without letting their dinner companion catch on.

Meanwhile, in Backyard Inventors, which is produced by Toronto-based Gorilla Media, innovation expert Doug Hall travels across Canada in search of everyday inventors with exceptional ideas.

Both shows premiere May 16, with Deal With It starting at 7:30 p.m. and Backyard Inventors following at 9 p.m.
